Petra's first
album is an interesting one to say the very least.
Personally, we like it. Call it "classic Petra"
or whatever you like, but it has a style all its own.
It's also very diverse musically, from the bluesy
"Back Sliding Blues" to Walkin' in the Light and then
onto Lucas McGraw. The latter is a light-hearted
attempt to explain what happens when we accept Christ
as our Savior & our life changes. Petra has come
to be known as a rock-solid band lyrically. This
album does not keep with that current day image.
While not necessarily as shallow as most CCM is today,
it does not have the lyrical heaviness of the Petra
over the last 20 years.
This is a good
album if you are not looking for the hard rock that
Petra has come to be known for in such albums as On Fire! and
Beyond Belief. If you go into listening to this
album with that idea, you will come away disappointed.
As previously stated, this album is musically diverse.
