Our Take: (4 out of 5)

Songs that we like are:

  • Come, Now Is the Time

  • Draw Me Close

  • Here I Am to Worship

  • Blessed Be Your Name

While not "technically" a Petra album, we think Vertical Expressions for all extensive purposes will be considered a Petra album. Since Petra retired in 2005, apparently retirement didn't suit Bob Hartman & John Schlitt very well.

This is Petra's 4th Praise album, and it is right up there with Revival & Petra Praise 2: We Need Jesus.  The production doesn't seem quite as slick as those 2 albums, but overall - especially from the musical selection perspective, it is right up there.  It has a very nice mix of songs with some very nice intros to contemporary worship songs that you simply would not expect.

If there is any drawback to this album is that John's vocals are a bit raspy at times.  We're not sure if that's intentional or not - much of the album doesn't come across that way at all, but there are 2 or so songs where it is present.

Overall, this is a great album & should be in every Petra fan's collections (or should we say "iiGuys from Petra" fans's collection?).

Petra is:

  • Bob Hartman (guitars, background vocals)
  • John Schlitt (lead & background vocals)
